A light French dressing (oil, vinegar, lemon juice, and seasonings) is appropriate for almost any salad. Mayonnaise, whipped cream, or cooked dressing should be used according to your own taste. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Out of the basic salad dressing ingredients, you may be able to create something special.

Salad Dressings Basic Ingredients that you may use:

Oils. Fruity Italian oil, olive oil, or french type such as vegetable oils made from corn, cotton seeds, peanuts, soybeans, and canola.

Vinegar. Strength of vinegar varies. That’s why it is important to add vinegar to the other ingredients a little at a time until your desired taste is reached. Old-fashioned vinegar has a wild taste. For a distinctive taste in your dressing, you may either use vinegar from tarragon, wine, pear, garlic, onion, or specially seasoned vinegar.

Seasonings. Use regular table salt. Black pepper is at its best when freshly ground. Fresh garlic should be minced, otherwise, you may opt for garlic salt or powdered dry garlic. Use dried or fresh herbs sparingly. With herbs, a little goes a long way.

Other Salad Staples. Keep these condiments at hand: garlic, celery salt, onion salt, minced salt, and onion juice. Horseradish pickle relish and seeds like caraway, sesame, celery and mustard add a distinctive flavor to both salads and salad dressings. Don’t overlook fresh and dried herbs such as sage, mint, chive, basil, oregano, and dill. Use sharp table steak sauce and red pepper sauce for zesty tang. Crunchy nuts and raisins give pleasing texture and taste.

There are times when we cannot avoid having leftovers. When a member of the family fails to come home at mealtime or when the family decides to eat out during untimely occasions when food had been prepared at home, food may be left over for the next meal. To throw away the food is a waste. But what can you do with that?

You can do something with mashed or sieved vegetables. You can turn them into soups, croquettes, or fritters. Starchy vegetables such as legumes and cereals as well as paste foods like macaroni and noodles lend themselves to such dishes as loaves, dumplings, or roast. Some good amount of baked beans might be converted into a fragrant brown roast with tomato sauce or any favorite sauce for topping. Add cooked macaroni to chopped peanuts and you have a delicious stuffing for peppers or cabbage.

Leftover cakes might be combined and used as topping for fruit salad or base for pudding and may be mixed with dry cereal like granola. Two-day old fruit pie can be heated and then broken into pieces topped with a mixture of fruits and nuts and served with whole milk. If you have ice cream which is losing its form and looks? Whisk it lightly and add milk; you’ll have a nourishing, frothy “milk shake.”

Seasoning is important in making new dishes from leftovers. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the new herbs and seasonings. Recognize the value of garnishes. Accompaniments play their part in making leftovers attractive. If you do the right thing with leftover foods, you need not apologize for them.

Wise Mom Recipe for the day is one of the all time summer favorite treats, the icecream cake! Your kids will definitely love it, and it is so quick and easy to prepare even if you don’t have ample time. Preparation time usually takes about fifteen minutes and will be ready to eat in approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes. This recipe will make up to 14 servings.

You will need to have the following ingredients:

24 Oreo Cookies2 cups

(1/2 of 1-L container) strawberry ice cream, softened

2 cups thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping, divided

2 cups (1/2 of 1-L container) chocolate ice cream, softened

2 Tbsp. chocolate fudge sauce

To prepare, line a 9-inch preferably round shaped pan) with a plastic wrap. Then place 14 whole cookies on the side of the round shaped pan. Crush cookies finely and then use the crushed cookie crumbs as crust. Set aside some of the cookie crumbs for alternate layer purposes. Spread the strawberry ice cream on top of the cookie crumbs crust then top with 1 cup of Cool Whip Whipped Topping and reserve the rest of the whip cream for final toppings after freezing. Top with the remaining cookie crumbs then use chocolate ice cream for the top layer.

You just need to freeze the cake for about 4 hours or overnight. To remove the icecream cake from the pan, simply lift the plastic wrap and carefully peel it off from the frozen cake. Let stand for about 10 minutes. fAnd for the final touches, top with remaining 1 cup whipped topping and drizzle with chocolate sauce. You may also top with fresh strawberries before serving.

Try this recipe at home, I’m sure your whole family will love and enjoy it!

I believe that one of the most important things that every mother should know, is how to cook great food. It is also one of the reasons why I wanted to create this blog. Cooking is one of the things that I can say, I am good at. My passion for cooking started since I was a kid. I have collected quite a good number of recipes through the years and I want to be able to publish and share different kinds of dishes and cooking style.

I will have a “Healthy Cooking With Wise Mom” section, in this blog. I want to share my family’s favorite recipes, the recipes I have made myself, quick and easy to make recipes, budget-recipes, recipes by occasion, healthy and vegetarian recipes, etc.

I hope that I would be able to impart some cooking knowledge, tips, and techniques, that everyone can learn from, and other moms can try in their respective homes too.

Cooking for kids at home is one of my favorite things to do. Aside from the satisfaction and joy it brings me, it also brings the whole family closer. It’s the best time to be able to bond with my kids, and my husband also help us make great tasting and healthy food.

Cooking time is a nice time to make nutritious and delicious food for our children. It is an inexpensive but a sure way to make your kids healthy. It is also a time to spend some nice memories with our kids. We can cook with them and they can learn to cook some good recipes at their early years of age.

We must teach our children at their early age to be more independent. They won’t stay with us always, and it is important that we teach them how to cook now. Even simple and easy recipes will do, and they will really be happy eating food which they have cooked with their own effort.

We can teach our kids to bake nutritious cookies, muffins and cakes. We can also make some unique food for them. We can cook with less sugar or make patties using the pulp of extracted carrots, spinach and other vegetables.

For a nutritious drink, we can make beverages or shakes by extracting some vegetable juices, such as carrots and cucumber mixed with ice cubes to make it more refreshing. With our cooked vegetable patties and carrot-cucumber juice, our kids will surely enjoy their meal.

Cooking for kids is a good time to spend with our children. Most of us are busy with our office work, and we can show our love and care for them by cooking special food during the weekends. They will appreciate this very much, and they won’t forget the memories of the time we have shared with them.

Cooking for kids is indeed very advantageous for us and our children. By this, we not only save money, but we also teach them how to cook, and share quality time with our kids.

Why do people prefer to eat cereals for breakfast? Aside from the fact that cereals are easy to prepare, it could provide right amount of nutrition that our body needs like vitamins, minerals, and fibers. But of course, not all cereals contain same amount of nutritional value that is why you need to check out the label of its nutritional facts and not just go with products that has attractive labels, or is much cheaper. Cereals with more than 3 grams of fibers, low sugar content, and those that are fortified with more vitamins are preferable to consume than the others.

A healthy breakfast matters a lot for us to be healthy. With the word breakfast, it means breaking the fasting state for the whole night while we are asleep. Thus, we need to eat the most nutritious food on breakfast than any other meal. Cereals have been accepted by the consumers not just because it is easy to prepare and nutritious but because of its texture and crunchy effect though milk is added to it. Kids prefer cereals too for breakfast because of its different shapes and so unique compared to any other meal, making it not too hard to let picky eaters to eat their breakfast.

Potatoes, both Irish Potato and Sweet Potato have a lot of health benefits. Aside from the fact that they are affordable and tastes good, potatoes have certain contents that can help strengthen our immune system and overall well-being.

Maybe you are interested to know which among the two is healthier to consume, sweet potato or an Irish potato so I made a research about that. According to the Nutritionists, sweet potatoes are many time healthier that Irish potatoes in regards to carbohydrate, calcium, sodium, silicon, and chlorine contents.

Have you tried to consume potato on its raw state? It is healthier than cooked one. I have not tried munching raw potatoes yet but at home we extract raw potatoes. It tastes good along with freshly extracted carrot juice (Irish potato plus carrots or sweet potato plus carrots). I usually do this if skin blemishes flare up because raw potato is effective in clearing up skin blemishes. My family drink freshly extracted juice too, not just because it is good for the skin but of its effectiveness in maintaining blood pressure on normal level.

What are the contents of raw potato that could clear up skin blemishes? It contains sulphur, potassium, phosphorus, and chlorine. These powerful elements are converted into an inorganic atoms if potatoes are cooked making them ineffective. As for me, a raw potato (either sweet or Irish potato) along with carrots tastes good, especially if you use sweet potatoes. If you have no gut to try drinking freshly extracted raw potatoes, think of the benefits you can get out of it for you to be more motivated to consume raw potatoes.

Aside from the two benefits I mentioned earlier, consuming raw and, or steamed potatoes could help you control your appetite; it could prevent you from kidney damage, heart attack, and stroke due to high blood pressure; and it could protect you from certain cancers because of its vitamin C and potassium contents.

Baked, mashed, and boiled potatoes are still healthy to consume but not that beneficial compared to raw. Easily digestible sugars in raw potato are converted to starches when it is cooked thus you cannot maximize the nutrition it offers. If you can dare to eat raw potato like you are eating an apple, go! Don’t hesitate to peel it because vitamin C content of potato is not near the skin but at the center of the potato.

Some people prefer to eat potato if it is fried like potato fries and potato chips. Sad to say it is not good to eat fried potatoes, not just because of the oil but of ACRYLAMIDE formation when potatoes are fried. Other people love to eat potato that is cooked along with meat. Did you know that Potato and meat combination could enhance the effect of SOLANIN? Solanin is predominant in green potatoes, it is an alkaloid compound.

For me, one of the most essential abilities of a wise mom is knowing how to cook. What is the importance of a mom with knows how to cook? How does home-made food differ from ready to eat food you buy from a fastfood or restaurant? Pretty simple, at home, you get to choose the right ingredients, and you are sure that you are feeding your family with healthy and nutritious food, while food at restaurants and fastfood chains are usually unhealthy and have many added preservatives.

If you happen to be one of those who eat fast food every day for lunch, try to start having it just every other day. When you begin by taking little steps of stopping to eat fastfood, it does not appear like you are reducing out all of the foods you enjoy and you can start taking your time to study how to cook and learn about healthy foods which, you and your whole family can love equally as well.

Living is a bliss when you are free of illnesses and you and your entire family can savour an better life style. Proper diet together with regular good exercise can help keep many diseases away. If the body acquires the appropriate nourishment, it is best for the immune system as it strengthens to fight infections and free radicals in the body. When your immune system is healthy, you recover faster whenever you get sick.compared to those who have low resistance.

As a wise mom, learn how to cok at home. Home made food allows for a better control of the food that your kids consume. You can reduce the consumption of trans fat, sugar, salt, and many another food additives, that are deemed unhealthy for our body. Commercially prepared foods like hot dogs, french fries, hamburgers, chips, cakes, etc are probably the greatest source of trans fats in our diet. It is better to make your own pizzas, icecream, burgers, cakes and other sweets and things your kids and entire family likes. It takes some time, and requires a lot of effort — but worthy enough knowing your whole family is eating healthy food.

You can choose to cook and use organically produced ingredients that are as fresh and locally available you can get without excessive expense or trouble. Organic products are recommended because they are naturally grown and do not have pesticides or other harmful chemicals sprayed on.

Home cooking also offers a more relaxed atmosphere for a family’s meal. It can also be a bonding activity for you and your husband as well as kids, and the happiness it brings is priceless. Home cooking do not cost as much as when you are always eating out, so you get to save on your family’s budget. So for all moms out there, try to practice or learn how to cook at home, and see what wonders it can do to you and your family’s health.
